Lilium martagon Red

The seed first forms a miniature lily bulb (hypogeal germination).  This miniature bulb, the size of a grain of wheat, forms in 6-10 weeds at 15-25C.  The new bulb now requires a further 10-12 weeks at 0C before it will germinate and produce the characteristic single leaf.

Why start from seed?  Cost & the challenge would be my reasons.  The average martagon lily bulb is about $10, with some bulbs as high as $35 - $50.  Martagon lilies, if treated properly may bloom in as little as 4 years from seed.
